Service & maintenance
Air Conditioning Service & Maintenance in Sydney
An annual service is the difference between a system that quietly costs more every summer and one that still runs the way it did on day one. JED’s manufacturer-trained technicians service split, multi-head and ducted systems across the North Shore, the Northern Beaches and the Eastern Suburbs — every job priced before we come out, every visit written up.
Authorised Daikin service agent. All major brands serviced. Onsite in one to two business days, Mon–Sat 7am–6pm.

What a JED service includes
A service is not a filter rinse. Done properly it is the annual check the manufacturers’ own warranty terms expect, and it takes a technician the better part of an hour on a wall split, longer on a ducted system.
- Indoor filters removed, cleaned or replaced; fan barrel and evaporator coil cleaned
- Outdoor coil cleaned and fins checked, with the unit cleared of leaf litter and debris
- Refrigerant pressures verified against the model’s own figures, not a rule of thumb
- Condensate drain cleared and tested so the indoor unit does not drip in February
- Electrical connections, terminals and capacitor checked; fan motors and bearings listened to
- Thermostat and controls tested, and the system run through every mode
- Ducted systems: zone motors, dampers and return-air filter checked, airflow balanced across outlets
- A written record of what was found and what was done — the record a warranty claim asks for
How often should it be serviced?
Once a year is the baseline. What moves it is how hard the system works and what the air around it carries.
| Situation | Interval | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Typical home, inland suburb | Every 12 months | Keeps efficiency up and the manufacturer warranty record current |
| Beachside or exposed position | Every 12 months, more often if very exposed | Salt and sand load filters and coils faster than inland air |
| Ducted system run daily | Every 12 months, return-air filters every 3 | Return-air filters load quickly and choke airflow across the whole house |
| Shopfront, office or clinic running all day | Generally every 6 months | Twice the running hours of a home; filters and coils foul in half the time |
| Holiday home or rarely used unit | Every 12 months regardless | Seals dry out and drains block when a system sits idle |
Signs your system is due
Weak airflow
Filters or coil are loaded, or a ducted zone damper has stuck. Airflow drops long before the system stops.
Musty smell on start-up
Biofilm on a damp evaporator coil or in the drain tray — the service cleans the source, not the symptom.
Water from the indoor unit
A blocked condensate drain. Cheap to clear at a service; expensive once it has run through a ceiling.
Power bills creeping up
A system working harder through dirty coils uses more power for less cooling. Servicing is usually paid back in a summer.
Ice on the pipes or coil
Low airflow or low refrigerant. Both are found and quoted at a service before the compressor pays for them.
Short-cycling or error codes
Starting and stopping every few minutes, or a code on the controller: the diagnosis happens at the visit and the fix is quoted before any part is replaced.
Service, or repair?
A service keeps a working system working. If it is already leaking, not cooling, tripping the breaker or showing an error code, that is a repair: we diagnose it on site and give you the price before anything is replaced. If a fault turns up during a service, the same rule applies — you decide, with a quote in front of you.
Daikin owners: JED is an authorised Daikin service agent, and the $200 service call fee is currently waived on Daikin service bookings.

Where we service
Three regions, 116 suburbs, each with its own page and the notes that apply there — salt air, strata, heritage frontages, roof space.
Air Conditioning North Shore
Mosman to Hornsby — ducted and split systems designed for the houses the North Shore actually has.
Air Conditioning Northern Beaches
Manly to Palm Beach — systems specified for salt air, not just for square metres.
Air Conditioning Eastern Suburbs
Bondi to Vaucluse, Paddington to Maroubra — installs that work around salt air, strata rules and heritage frontages.
Air conditioning service FAQs
How often should an air conditioner be serviced?
Once every 12 months for most Sydney homes, with wall-split filters rinsed monthly through summer. Ducted systems run daily want their return-air filters checked every three months, beachside positions get more exposure to salt and sand, and a commercial system running all day is generally serviced every six months.
What is included in an air conditioning service?
Filters, evaporator and condenser coils cleaned; refrigerant pressures verified against the model’s figures; condensate drain cleared and tested; electrical connections checked; controls and every operating mode run; and on ducted systems the zones, dampers and return-air filter checked and airflow balanced. You get a written record of what was found.
How much does an air conditioning service cost?
A standard annual service on a wall split is a fixed-price visit; ducted and multi-head systems are priced by the number of indoor units and zones. We confirm the price when you book, before anyone comes out, and the $200 service call fee is currently waived on Daikin service bookings.
Does regular servicing keep my warranty valid?
Manufacturers expect a system to be maintained, and a warranty question is far easier when there is a service record to point to. JED is an authorised Daikin service agent, so for Daikin systems the service is done to the standard Daikin trains us to and recorded the way Daikin recognises.
What happens if you find a fault during the service?
We tell you what it is and what it costs before anything is replaced. A service is a service; if it needs to become a repair, that is your decision with a price in front of you, not a surprise on the invoice.
Can I clean the filters myself between services?
Yes, and you should — wall-split filters slide out and rinse under a tap, monthly in summer. That is a filter clean, not a service: coils, refrigerant, drains and electrics still need a technician annually.
Do you service brands other than Daikin and Haier?
Yes. We service and repair all major brands — Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu, Panasonic, Samsung, LG, Carrier, Toshiba, Hitachi, ActronAir and Braemar among them. Daikin and Haier are the brands we are certified dealers for and recommend for new installations.
